It wasn’t long after the launch of Destiny 2’s Faction Rally event before players started noticing that there weren’t any new items dropping from the Faction engrams. Some assumed it was a bug, but as has now been confirmed by Bungie, the new Faction weapons added with the Curse of Osiris are not yet in the loot table for Season 2.
Speculation surrounding the lack of new weapon drops built up on Tuesday afternoon and on through the night, and early Wednesday morning Community Manager dmg_04 promised to get an answer for players. And by mid-Wednesday, Bungie released an official tweet confirming that the new Destiny 2 weapons were not yet added to the potential engram drops.
New Faction Rally weapons introduced with Curse of Osiris are not currently available within Faction Engram rewards. These weapons will become available over the course of the season. For additional information, please see https://t.co/INzRKF9wdy

As can be expected, the Destiny 2 fan base was frustrated that Bungie didn’t make this clear ahead of time. Yes, the Faction Rally event has plenty of loot to collect but many set their sights on the new Faction weapons that entered the Destiny 2 database a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, the only truly new pursuits for this week’s Faction Rally are the winner weapons from the last event, progress towards a ship, sparrow, and ghost, and the opportunity to unlock the armor ornaments.
Shortly after Bungie confirmed there was no bug and the weapons are simply not in the loot table yet, live team director Christopher Barrett took to Twitter to address the issue. Barrett acknowledged that this was poor communication on the development team’s part and vowed to get it right in the future. He also admitted that the recent blog update filled with planned new features, from Masterwork Armor to Eververse changes, took the spotlight and this other detail slipped through the cracks.
Our new goals for weapon rewards in Faction Rallies should have been broadcast before it returned. I think we could have avoided lots of confusion for players. The Development update was our priority.

But the real question is why the Faction Rally weapons are not available for this first event of Season 2? Bungie says that it plans to add them as time goes on, but it seems odd that the developer would delay the Faction Rally and then launch it without anything new, especially when the community is desperate for any reason to return to the game. In essence, this makes the Faction Rally worthless to those players that have all of the weapons and armor pieces they want.
Destiny 2 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
