Today, the video game publisher and developer Ubisoft officially announced its decision to bring the first-person shooter Far Cry 3 to current generation systems, with the title set to receive a “Classic Edition” for both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. While the game’s Classic Edition will initially be included for free in Far Cry 5‘s Season Pass, it looks as if the title will eventually become available as a standalone item for consoles at some point later this year.
As seen below in the announcement trailer for Far Cry 3‘s Classic Edition, Ubisoft states that the title will be given as a free bonus to players who purchase the Season Pass for Far Cry 5 and that it will be available “four weeks early.” The short clip also reveals that it will be available in summer 2018, which infers that the game will likely have a release on its own after being given to FC5‘s Season Pass owners first.
For those who never got the chance to play Far Cry 3, myriad critics showered the title with positive reviews due to the game’s tightly refined mechanics, lush tropical environments, and engaging storyline. What’s more is that the third entry in the first-person shooter franchise includes what many consider to be one of the most intriguing video game villains of the last-gen era, Vaas Montenegro.
All things considered, it will be interesting to see exactly how many fans choose to acquire Far Cry 3: Classic Edition by purchasing Far Cry 5‘s Season Pass, as Ubisoft is surely banking on the franchise’s third game being a major selling point of the new installment’s DLC. There’s no doubt that a lot of gamers are already prepared to go all-in on Far Cry 5 and its downloadable content, but there may be some who choose to simply wait and get Far Cry 3‘s Classic Edition as an individual item later on down the line.
Far Cry 3: Classic Edition will be available for free in Far Cry 5 ‘s Season Pass and is set to launch as a standalone version later this year for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
